20/20: Getting that fourth goal was vital and Dallas ties series

Having covered the Dallas Stars in some capacity for a long time, I’ve grown used to writing about situations like Thursday.

The Stars started a series slow, dropped Game 1 at home, and had to bounce back rather quickly before things completely unraveled.

And Dallas did the job in Game 2, winning 5-3 against the Colorado Avalanche.

Let’s get into the 20/20.

1. I wanna open this story with a credit to Shap Shots reader ajnrules, who had this comment and dug up this stat after Game 1.

Stars lose way too often after taking 3-0 leads. I did some research and in the past three seasons the Stars lost six games after taking 3-0 leads at any point in the game. The one thing these losses have in common is that the Stars take a 3-0 lead and never got another goal. In fact in the past three seasons the Stars are 3-4-2 when taking a 3-0 lead and failing to add a fourth goal. Now when they do get that fourth goal after going up 3-0 they are 34-0-0!

I couldn’t help but think about that after Tyler Seguin scored to make it 4-0 in the second period.
