20/20: On a sloppy and chaotic night, Oilers get final bounce in OT vs Red Wings
The best player in the world also did something fun.
The Edmonton Oilers beat the Detroit Red Wings 3-2 in overtime on Thursday night.
Here is the 20/20 from a weird game that was scoreless after 40 minutes and then featured five goals combined in the third period and OT.
1. Alex Lyon certainly deserved better.
The Red Wings goalie made 44 saves on 47 shots. He was busy early and often, but was a calming force in a sloppy game.
For a Red Wings team that thought it had a calm goalie in Ville Husso, they seem to have stumbled upon one with Lyon.
2. In fact, only the sloppiest and most chaotic moments were enough to beat Lyon in the end.
Jus took at the game-winning goal.
3. Sometimes you need a little bit of luck to get the point.
Olli Määttä scored just his second goal of the season to tie the game late in the third period after Oilers goalie Calvin Pickard got lost on a sharp angle shot by Lucas Raymond and essentially gifted the Red Wings a point in the standings.
Look at this… somehow Määttä scored seconds after this screengrab.
In another lucky moment for Detroit they reached overtime after Edmonton nearly won the game when Evander Kane scored with less than a minute remaining… but it was ruled no goal because of a hand pass leading up to the finish.
