I honestly do not understand being one of the top athletes in the world and refusing to protect your eyes/face. The downside to the bubble are so negligible compared to *checks notes* shattering your face or losing an eye.

It seems like the visors are sometimes worn tilted up too high for full protection… Marchment wore his that way. And it was his second puck to face this season… Also, the longer visors do protect more of the face, but I always felt that eye protection is/was the main concern with required visor wearing. The newer visors have near perfect visual clarity, the older models were not as good optically.

When I first started playing beer league, I wore a wire cage like everyone else. Eventually, I moved on to a Stephane Robidas-style visor (like Duchene wears now, covering down to below the nose). A mid ice collision and my helmet shifted down, the visor cutting my upper lip. I still have a scar! I went to the Bauer hybrid bubble like Marchment has. It was hot and fogged up a lot. Eventually I went back to the cage. At lease I could breathe!

People advocating for players to wear full bubbles have clearly never played the game, compared to a visor bubbles are hot, heavy, fog easily and distracting. There's a reason every professional and high level league wears visors.

I wonder if there's any evidence supporting the idea that players without full face protection are less likely to hit/high stick others in the face. I honestly doubt it.

It smacks to me of "having enforcers males players take fewer liberties with your teammates" while playing in a league constantly losing high-end players to hits to the head. Calling penalties and giving suspensions are the only real way to reduce dangerous incidents, imo, which is exactly what we saw in the NHL.
