Could the Stars transplant an entire defensive pair from the Flyers?
A look at somethings I know and somethings I think about a potential deal between Dallas and Philadelphia.
Within the next ten days the Dallas Stars are likely going to trade for a defenseman.
In fact, they might even trade for two.
Before we get too deep, let me go over some things I feel confident reporting/being aggregated by someone on social media.
— The Stars are making calls (all teams do at this time of year, duh), and they are looking to improve the blue line. Jim Nill is pretty comfortable with the Stars forward group, and that extends to the AHL roster with Logan Stankoven and Mavrik Bourque both being NHL-ready.
— Stars owner Tom Gaglardi wants to win (again, not ground breaking), and he’s effectively given the green light for Nill to make a larger move (or moves) before the NHL trade deadline on March 8.
— The recent injuries on defense, having left the Stars having to rely on Derrick Pouliot and Alex Petrovic in NHL games, have been eye-opening as a reminder that the blue line depth needs to be upgraded.
— The price to upgrade the defense, today, is hefty. Things move and change, but with more than 10 days before the deadline, teams aren’t just giving away assets.
None of this is groundbreaking. None of it.
Now, let’s get into some of the fun stuff of what could happen and admittedly leans more into rumblings and potential.
