For the fourth time in his career, Alex Chiasson turns PTO into full-time NHL contract
This time Journeyman NHLer turned AHL PTO into NHL deal in Detroit
DETROIT — I know you aren’t supposed to use first-person in important capital “J”, journalism stories.
But I’ve known Alex Chiasson since he was a Dallas Stars prospect coming out Boston University. We’ve crossed paths over the years, and various times we’ve had the conversation about how he turned a PTO, a tryout contract, into an NHL job and one of those PTOs turned into a Stanley Cup with the Washington Capitals in 2018.
He’s always been appreciative of what he’s worked for, and has joked in the past that someday he’d have to go back to Boston University to finish the degree and finish out was next.
It’s the type of humor one acquires when you’ve signed and turned three PTOs into full-time jobs.
And the punchline nearly became reality this season.
