I double checked, it looks like I have at least nine jobs
And guess what, I just added one more.
If you checked social media this morning, you probably noticed I have another new gig and that starting this week I’ll be contributing to Dallas Stars coverage at DLLS, a new outpost for the ALLCITY network.
To quickly clarify, Shap Shots isn’t going anywhere. This site remains one of my favorite projects and I’m excited about growing it this upcoming season.
But I also understand the fair and natural question, “wait, how do you handle all of this?” that a current or prospective reader might have.
First let me explain what “all of this,” is for me at this point in my life as a writer/editor/podcaster.
This is my rough list of current jobs.
Shap Shots writer and publisher
Editor at SturmStack
Head goalie scout/guru at Elite Prospects and EP Rinkside
Podcast co-host for Expected by Whom?
Dallas Stars columnist/podcast at DLLS
Dallas Stars columnist at DMagazine
Dallas Stars podcast co-host at Spits&Suds
Launch manager for The Late Game
Hockey business consultant for various clients
So, yeah, it’s a lot. As the great author Michael Scott once said, Somehow I Manage.
On a serious note, keeping everything in order is something that I’m always working at improving on. One of the ways I do that is by giving myself public accountability in posts like this.
For everyone, some of my EP Rinkside content from last season is being moved to Shap Shots as I’ve shifted to more goalie scouting. If I find an NHL story interesting, and I find many interesting, this will be my primary place to write about it.
For Stars fans, who may be wondering how this all works with my new DLLS gig, Shap Shots will still have Stars coverage. In fact, 20/20s for the Stars and Red Wings will live exclusively here, you can see a new tab for those on the home page of this site.
For Red Wings fans, this site is going to have more Detroit coverage this season. I’ve already booked my trip up to Traverse City for the prospect showcase.
I’m also working to make it easier for readers to customize their coverage. I’ll go over the specifics of that before the start of the season, but essentially I will make it where you can opt in or out specific team emails for 20/20s.
If I’m failing to deliver here at Shap Shots, as a reader, please let me know. I want this to be a place where readers feel like they have a voice.
Hopefully this helps clear things up a bit, and energizes readers a bit with less than three weeks until the start of hockey season.
In the meantime, we are going to continue posting something each weekday until the NHL season begins. I’m figuring out topics for Tuesday morning as we speak.
For paid subscribers, keep an eye out for a call for mailbag questions. That should be posted soon and we’ll get answers to the people on Friday.
As always thanks for reading.
Excited for the new venture! There's been a gap in Dallas Stars' coverage and this seems like it might fit the bill.
Can't wait to see what's in store for the season! Grateful for you Sean and your continued coverage of the Stars!!
