Let's steal a drill from Todd McLellan
A look at something I found interesting from Red Wings practice on Wednesday.
Hope everyone had a Happy New Year, because of the nature of holidays and having two young kids, having time to sit down and write the past couple days hasn’t been easy.
So before we get into today’s piece, I wanted to give a rough update on some scheduled things I’ve got coming in the next 24 to 36 hours for readers at Shap Shots.
Something tonight about the Stars-Senators game, I’ll be doing the pre and post-game show over at DLLS, so I’ll write something as well.
Something Friday morning on the Detroit Red Wings changed penalty kill. I’ve spoken to Detroit players about it at length, and want to see how things go in that regard tonight between Detroit and the Columbus Blue Jackets.
If Team USA beats Switzerland today in the quarterfinals of the 2025 World Junior championships I’ve got a feature story (and some fun art) about Michigan State goalie Trey Augustine to run before the semifinal on Saturday.
OK, for today, I wanted to share a drill I found fascinating watching the Red Wings practice yesterday.
I know we have some readers in this space that like seeing how NHL teams practice and I know at least one reader here has told me they’d like to see more drills so they could steal them coaching their youth team.
I’ll start with the video of Todd McLellan explaining the drill to his team and the first group going through it.
