Olympic Daily: The anatomy of a Slovakia upset courtesy of Samuel Hlavaj and Juraj Slafkovský
Slovakia opened the Olympic men's hockey tournament with a statement win against the favored Finns.
I think it’s fair to say we’ve been looking forward to this game since 2014.
After a dozen years, and two Olympic cycles, NHL players are officially back in the Olympics and we finally have a true “best-on-best” tournament (Russia excluded) that features more than four national teams.
Throughout this tournament my plan at Shap Shots is to pick a “main game” each day, and write something off of that. Sometimes they’ll be “main games” or I’ll included more than one game, but the plan is to have something daily for readers where we can share some thoughts/stories/observations and spark some conversation.
Today, naturally, our main game is the tournament opener, Finland vs. Slovakia.
