Great story. It connects on so many different levels. For what it’s worth, I am a Tour Manager working with traveling musicians, and I’ve done it for close to 30 years. I spend a minimum of six months of my year away from home, and leaving never gets any easier…
Lots of different artists through the years. The music biz was the gig economy before that was a term we knew or understood. I took any and all jobs that came along when I first started. I moved to Austin in the early 90’s specifically to try and work in the music biz. I was lucky enough to work with a ton of Texas singer/songwriters as I learned on the job. I got a huge break and landed my first big national/international act with an indie rock band out of LA, and then worked in the pop world, and country world for a long time. Recently, I’ve been extraordinarily fortunate to have a longstanding gig with a well known band out of Chicago. I can go on and on about the upside/downside to tour life and how it affects a family, but the Substack comment section is probably not the right spot for my life story though! Ha!
This is the kind of story I am here for.
One of the reasons we love you so much Sean, the odd story like this!
Great story. Makes me think of my travel. Also, Harry Chapin, "Cats in the Cradle"

that sounds like quite the life, I'm sure you've had some crazy stories with that too. What music/genre do you typically work with?
