Sorry to hear this news Sean. I honestly drifted away from the DLLS show when you were not on. A lot of clowning around on that show for my taste. Even when you were, it was a difficult dynamic as it seemed you were not able to get into depth on topics with the 4 person crew. You have so much depth to share that was not coming out. I continue look forward to Shap Shots and reading your work.
Sean, as I have mentioned in the DLLS Discord a few times, you are my hockey spirit animal and in the best possible way. Everything I thought I saw or wondered about, you wrote about and far more eloquently than I could imagine expressing. Please don't stop covering the Stars in some way, shape, or form, because your insight has been a joy to read and I have learned so much over the years reading and listening to you.
From “Wrong Side of the Red Line”, to “The Upset”, to “The Athletic”, to this Substack, to “DLLS Diehard” (from the launch!) … I just re-upped for the whole year on here again.
You’re one expensive hobby, my friend 😊
But one I will continue to spend on, mostly because I want to continue to support you—but also because I truly enjoy your writing. Your perspective on all things hockey (who can forget when you were moved to the “business side” of the sport on The Athletic?) is one I really appreciate.
I have been in your shoes—in an altogether different industry—and it sucks. But you know what? I wouldn’t be where I am if not for the journey. So, keep those blades sharpened, watch your five-hole, and don’t let the brutes who crash your paint go unpunished! Your loyal audience will follow you, masked or unmasked!
Man... this sucks. Sean, I just want to say I really appreciate the openness and transparency in this post. It reflects well on the DLLS crew, and helps us appreciate the business reality of journalism right now. What's particularly tough is that I really appreciate the thought you brought to that crew, and the fearlessness expressing what many of us are thinking - Matt Duchene WAS cooked! (It's not *your* fault he took it personally) I think that show will really miss your perspective, especially during the playoffs where smart hot takes are particularly valuable and interesting. At least we get to keep them here, and I'm happy to be a supporter!
In the past year and a half, the pod has become a huge part of my daily life/fandom. You were a huge part of that and I’m truly going to miss your presence on the show. I enjoy your written work and I’m looking forward to your next chapter. You seem like a kind-hearted/friendly person and karma always provides opportunities for people like that. I appreciate your dedication to this team and our fanbase. Best wishes

Aw man! I will really miss you on the DLLS show!! You’re one of my favorite sports writers, so I can’t wait to see everything coming out on ShapShots.
Well damn. Media, you cruel mistress. Gonna miss your perspective on the pod. Keep up the good work everywhere else.
Sorry you're leaving DLLS. I Really enjoyed your insights and contributions. So glad I can still follow you here on ShapShots. Keep up the great work!

sad to hear this for you Sean and for the DLLS team and show as it hurts the value proposition considerably to take you off the show.
