GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The biggest story at play for the Texas Stars this season is what’s happening with Mavrik Bourque and Logan Stankoven.

The duo lead the AHL with points heading into Friday night, and barring an unbelievable weekend and a no-show by Texas they’ll likely still hold those spots come Monday morning.

I sat down with both Bourque and Stankoven on Thursday for a piece coming next week in D Magazine. I’ll also have more to write about them at this publication, but for now, I want to focus on the other key Texas Stars development and how it relates to Dallas’ long-term vision in net.

For the Stars one of the biggest knocks of the franchise for years had been the lack of a homegrown goaltender.

Marty Turco was first true homegrown goalie in the Dallas era, and since Turco the Stars waited more they finally drafted and developed a No. 1 with Jake Oettinger.
