I have a couple quick thoughts on the Chris Tanev trade.
First, it’s masterful work by Dallas Stars GM Jim Nill. Second, it’s remarkable that they were effectively able to land him for what feels like nothing.
The second-round pick is fine value, but the third-round conditional pick only exists if the Stars reach the Stanley Cup Final — a trade they’ll gladly take. And the prospect, Artem Grushnikov, had dropped so far down my list of prospects, that honestly, I was wondering if he’d even get a qualifying offer from Dallas this spring as a restricted free agent.
It’s larceny for the Stars.
Ok, onto some of the nitty gritty scouting stuff.
