The Dallas Stars officially introduced Glen Gulutzan as their head coach Wednesday, a move that had started to leak out this weekend, and was confirmed on Tuesday.

Stars general manager Jim Nill was part of a press conference that lasted about 25 minutes, then took time to connect with me for a phone conversation this afternoon.

Some of this was covered in Nill’s press conference, understandably, but I also prefaced this conversation with the caveat that I’d try not to ask him any repeat questions.

Let’s start with some of the specifics on the Stars coaching search, and how it played out.

Nill wouldn’t give a quantitative number of how many candidates he interviewed for the job, but he stood by his claim that he went on an exhaustive search. He said there were some candidates that were only interviewed remotely, over Zoom, while another handful were interviewed in person.
