Thank you! It’s truly awful. The whole product has taken a steep step down this season. I love that it’s free, but it was soooo much better last season. I hope they go back to what worked.
The Frankly Hockey segments are awful. I get that they’re doing a synergy thing, but the clips they’ve shown are the most dull, boilerplate stuff I’ve ever seen during a Stars intermission. It’s the absolute worst possible version of “national media” on display: adds nothing to the Stars broadcast and nothing for someone interested in the rest of the league.
It also makes the Dallas Stars market look like it's dumbing down their broadcast for Stars fans. It's a label that we have worked hard against. It feels like the entire country doesn't take Texas hockey seriously, and, to be even more honest, the "Yeehaw-key" BS the Stars are rolling with makes it even worse. Stars fans are not just dumb-as-rocks, pitchfork throwing, imbeciles. I mean, I am, but, you can't group all the rest of these lovely folks in with me...
In all seriousness, though, the programming is awful. We are not children. We deserve better than we had last year, not worse.
Thank you, Sean. I made the same point about Frankly Hockey in comments on Robert Tiffin's Substack after its first appearance on the game broadcast. Totally worthless, and certainly not as useful as Sevy and Brian's comments.
Good take! Responses seem to all agree. The guys are doing ok… imo launch Frank, sooner than later… even if I wanted league info, he’s not the guy I’d pick!
Also, can’t keep from commenting on the national broadcast of home opener… nothing exceptional or unusual about it… but… As a fan who doesn’t fit in the shrunken seats put in during remodel of AC… I would have loved to see a full pre-game of the opening night events… instead I was forced to watch Capitols vs Lightening game… who cares???
I’m guessing most Victory fans would agree. Just another marketing miss by the worst major marketing dept in the major leagues!
The audio has been awful and it feels so cold and detached compared to what I found to be super interesting and engaging pre/post/intermissions on Victory+ last year. Really, really disappointing to say the least.
I was talking to my son about how much the new intermission report format bothered me. I understood when it was an away game, since under Bally those had been in a studio. But it does feel like they're more concerned about a younger and hipper production (with the podcast bro setup) rather than letting them cover the game. It just felt like it's trying hard, while not really being much of anything. I hope they get rid of the mic arms and let the guys do what they're comfortable with.
It's impossible to overstate how good Victory+ is for the fans; I'm very grateful that I have a free and easy way to watch my favorite team.
I have no idea what constraints the production team are under, but I do hope they take your article with the same amount of earnestness you wrote it with. Even your most scathing remarks are 100% fair; some things you can't dress up without compromising the truth. Criticism is easy, but *good* criticism is an art.
I appreciate Dallas taking the risk to try something different, but I don't like this format at all. Tried to give it a chance, and I love podcasts, but that's not what I want during the intermission report.

+1 For the shrunken seats at AAC!
That’s at Victory+ studios?
I wasn’t sure they hadn’t gotten a folding table and shot the whole thing in Sevvy’s basement.
Yeah, the new intermission report looks very obviously like a budget decision, not a creative one. And if it was creative...yikes.

I just assumed Rea and Sevy were in a witness relocation program.
