One of my best memories was taking my young daughter to skate for the very first time… she squeezed my hand so tight I only let her grab a finger! When we finished, with bright eyes and a big smile she said “I never realized it would be so slippery”.
One of my favorite memories in life is taking my 9yo step-daughter to a BOS v MIN game last season. I've been watching hockey my whole life, and played a few years (jrs and rec league) But to watch a game through her eyes, seeing the athletes as something she can be, was awesome. Really hope this league survives and thrives.
This was a great, little story. Captures perfectly how It's hard for certain people to understand that here's nothing like seeing someone who looks like you do something that isn't commonly done by those you look like. It's like having access to new dreams. My cousin was was an elite inline player. To the point where his career took him to work with the Blues and Kings. Not sure my love of hockey would have had the same effect without him.
it's a big thing, right? My cousins are Filipino and live in San Antonio. They aren't huge hockey fans or anything like that, but seeing Jason Robertson score more than 100 points couple seasons back had them noticing someone like them ripping it up at the NHL level, and it means a lot.
Fantastic perspective. We have a 16yo boy that plays hockey and a 2yo girl who is absolutely obsessed with everything about hockey. We will be getting her on the ice soon enough. This is good to keep in mind. Though not sure how likely a PWHL event in Dallas is, I certainly wouldn’t bet against it with how well the Brad Albert’s led Stars org brings events in to grow the game.

that's awesome. For me watching the kids skate on Saturday mornings has become my favorite time at the rink

Great story and perspective. Loved it.

next time I talk with Brad I'll bother him about getting an event down there!
