Wing Wednesday: Using NHL EDGE to get Walman to the All-Star Game, plus Gostisbehere and shooting mentality
Let's have a Wednesday conversation about shots from the blue line.
Like many hockey fans, I’ve spent time exploring the NHL EDGE puck-and-player tracking data that was released to the public on Monday morning.
We still have to figure out the best application for the data, but it’s a strong start for the league to actually share information that has been tracked, but kept hidden for three seasons now.
There are still flaws, the website isn’t well designed to track and sort things, and at this point things aren’t easily translated to rates — so players that have played more games benefit. But it’s at least a potential foundation, and for my purposes, it can be a leaping point for story ideas.
Which gets us to Jake Walman the 2024 NHL All-Star Game in Toronto.
