Wing Wednesday: What does Klim Kostin bring to the Red Wings?
Let's look at the film on one of the newest Red Wings.
Acquiring and signing Klim Kostin was one of the sneakier pieces of business for Detroit Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman this summer.
Kostin was a pending restricted free agent, with arbitration rights, that the Edmonton Oilers weren’t going to bring back. Edmonton was also looking to dump Daily Yamamoto’s contract, so for the cost of taking Yamamoto and buying him out, AKA “future considerations,” Yzerman landed Kostin’s rights on June 29.
The Red Wings then didn’t qualify Kostin, a slightly puzzling decision for some on social media, before signing him to a two-year deal with a $2 million cap hit. It was a slightly risky move for Detroit, Kostin was being heavily pursued by KHL club Avangard Omsk, but the slight risk paid off financially speaking.
Which brings us to the next question, and the entire point of this story, what does Klim Kostin bring to the Red Wings this season?
