Algorithmically Incorrect Hockey: Episode 1

A recording from Sean Shapiro's live video

OK, that was fun.

Yesterday afternoon Robert Tiffin and I recorded Episode 1 of Algorithmically Incorrect, streamed both here at Substack and on YouTube.

I was really happy with the show in the moment, and then listened to the audio version late last night as I made the drive to Ontario — I’m over OHL Cup today for some Elite Prospects work — and importantly, I’m still proud of the show.

It’s going to get better and we are going to work on figuring out the technical things, but I think it was a good first step.

If you missed it live, Robert and I opened the show discussing how we got here and then went down a wormhole on the PWHL, rule changes, and what it might all mean.

Then we were joined joined by SportsNet’s Elliotte Friedman (55 minute mark) to discuss Jim Nill’s recent extension in Dallas, some great Lou Lamoriello stories, whether Elliotte even likes the term “insider,” and how you build trust while protecting sources.

Finally (1:16:00) we talk with agent Ian Greengross of Greengross Athletic Management Enterprises about how he navigates discussions between teams and clients, how the coaching landscape has changed over his career, and what he’s learned as an agent, a lawyer, and a former hockey goaltender.

If you missed it live or if you want to re-watch it, you do so here or on YouTube page. The podcast audio is now up in both Spotify and Apple Podcasts.

Subscribing to the show in any of those places and leaving a review is a huge help for us, so if you actually liked the product, leave us a nice review, please. I’m also looking for any and all feedback in the comments here, because as Robert and I said on the show itself, we want to use this to make ourselves better.

Episode 1 was really fun and I’m looking forward Episode 2 next Wednesday.
