This isn’t a #Carcast, because I struggle to use that name without it involving my pal Owen Newkirk, who used to record postgame shows with me on the road when I lived in Dallas.
But I’ve been inspired lately to experiment more with this space, the audio part, and I often have stories and ideas that never get told, simply because I don’t have the time or space for them.
So, let’s try something called “Rink Drive,” where I’m leaving the rink, hit record on the voice memos app and see where the conversation takes us.
Today I’m driving home from downtown Detroit, having just left the morning skate for the Detroit Red Wings and Tampa Bay Lighting. I discuss Victory+, and the article I wrote last night, how goalies prep for games and lefty vs. righty shooters and depth in the crease. I also chat about 6-foot-8 Lightning forward Curtis Douglas, who I caught up with this morning seven years after he was drafted in Dallas, and the importance of building relationships in this business with everyone, including the security guards.
Hopefully you’ll enjoy this, if you don’t, that’s OK.
