Some additional thoughts on Mikael Granlund and Cody Ceci to Dallas
Thanks for you patience, the kids are watching a movie, and I have some thoughts.
OK, let’s talk a bit more about the trade the Dallas Stars and San Jose Sharks made on Saturday morning.
The Stars acquired Mikael Granlund and Cody Ceci, sending a 2025 first-round pick and 2025 fourth-round pick (which becomes third if Dallas makes Stanley Cup Final) back to the Sharks.
When the deal was going down, I was in the midst of getting ready to take the kids sledding1, so I only had a quick post about what Granlund could bring to Dallas as a shooter and playmaker.
You can read that piece here:
Moral of the story on Granlund is this: he’s a creative player that likes to shoot the puck. He should help bolster the Stars forward group, especially with what's happened injury wise, and playing on a better team his point totals are probably only going to get better.
We didn’t cover the cost, Ceci’s impact, or what Dallas didn’t give up earlier. So, if you’ll allow me, let me go through some bullet points/thoughts that are both my own and based on some conversations with others who have closely watched Ceci in San Jose.
